Our certified lactation consultants specialize in breastfeeding and have expertise and training in dealing with the complex problems associated with lactation. They help mothers experiencing breastfeeding problems, such as latching difficulties, painful nursing, and low milk production. They also help babies who aren’t gaining enough weight.

Glacial Ridge Health System has RNs who are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) on staff. They are available for lactation consultation on both an inpatient and outpatient basis to provide one-on-one assistance following birth. Providing lactation consultation is an additional component of the continuity of care to ensure a positive experience during an important time in parents' and babies’ lives.

For women who want to return to work or school, lactation consultants help them meet their breastfeeding goals. They’re familiar with breastfeeding equipment, like breast pumps, and give breastfeeding moms tips on how to safely store expressed breast milk.
